Black Belt

Why is it so rare to see a Brazilian jujutsu black belt first degree above?

Apparently (at least in MA) that everyone is a black belt, but never a second degree, etc. I read that it takes at least three years between the two grades. I also read that Matt Serra has received his belt black eight years ago, but I hear it still called a black belt in jiu-jitsu. Anyone have any info on this?

So are many belt black in various stages MMA (BJ Penn, Demian Maia, Jacare, Gracie, and like all others), it is not unusual in that, they just say black belt, because who remember the hell of the various bands of all, so that advertisers know they have a black belt is not that degree
